LEGACY
THREE CHILDREN AND THEIR HORSE
Annika's Story of 'Golden Grain'
Golden Grain's a lovely chestnut horse, big and strong. He has a star on his
forehead, with a thread that comes down from it. This horse is very friendly
with children, although he sometimes takes advantage of them too - because
he's a bit hard for them to control. He's a tinker. He has a fantastic memory,
and most of all he's very intelligent. He knows very well who intends to treat
him well and who doesn't. His life story goes like this. He was born in 1991
on the Lagunillas Farm in the Maipo Valley, in the mountains near Santiago. He
was tamed by my dad, who used him a pack horse to carry boxes of goat cheeses,
and work in herddng goats and cattle. Now, he's retired from the mountains, and
we children get to ride him.
